"The staff of Tillamook School District #9 is committed to providing the students of our community with a quality education. We recognize and appreciate the community of Tillamook valuing our schools; so, we will be welcoming our students to school on May 8th, 2019.
Instead of walking out, the staff will be wearing RED for ED shirts on Wednesday, May 8th.
At the end of the school day, we will be RALLYING outside of our schools to show our support for fully funding a quality education.
We will then move to the downtown core for a short period of time.
We, the educators of Tillamook School District #9, call upon our community to make your voices heard. Join us on May 8th to show your support by wearing RED for ED, and as you drive past us, make your voices heard to support education for our community and the state.
Currently the State of Oregon has adopted the Quality Education Model as the best format for educating students; however, it has NOT been fully funded by OUR legislature.
Our legislature, the representatives of our interests at the state level, has not been able to create a budget that makes it a priority to fully fund the Quality Education Model which represents the national average for funding schools. Instead, they are looking at attempting to create a budget that they consider “adequate” funding.
Unfortunately, their adequate funding DOES NOT lower class sizes, DOES NOT create more learning opportunities for students, DOES NOT provide necessary resources for students, DOES NOT fund the schools at the level necessary for student success.
This lack of investment in education throughout the State of Oregon shortchanges all students. The State of Oregon needs to adhere to their contract with our students to provide a Quality Education. A Quality Education must be prioritized in the State’s budgeting process. We NEED to make our voices heard.
Tillamook School District staff STANDS WITH OUR STUDENTS and our community in our demand to FULLY FUND EDUCATION according to the Quality Education Model. This is an INVESTMENT in the SUCCESS of our students, families, and the future of Oregon."
